Situation: Flora was on a gap year teaching in a remote village in Tanzania when she contracted malaria in May 2008.
She took advice from her GP before travelling, but left it too late to take her antimalarials as prescribed.
Outcome: Flora was treated for malaria in Tanzania where healthcare is extremely basic. She was not treated with the correct dose of drugs and when she left hospital she still had malaria. She had to return to the hospital two months later for further treatment.
